LEAP 2020 Speakers

Charlotte Matthews is Sidewalk Labs’ Director of Sustainability. Charlotte joined Sidewalk from commercial real estate, bringing over 20 years of experience in the development, design, construction, and operation of green buildings and distributed generation-energy infrastructure. At Sidewalk, she is spearheading the company’s “Climate Positive” efforts at their proposed development on Toronto’s Eastern Waterfront.

A pioneer and visionary in the energy field, Charlotte previously led sustainability for Related Companies and its massive Hudson Yards development. At Related, Charlotte oversaw green development activity and operational standards, with projects including the Hudson Yards microgrid and thermal loop. The first of their kind microgrid and two cogeneration plants will save 24,000 MT of CO2e greenhouse gases from being emitted annually (equal to the emissions of 2,200 American homes or 5,100 cars) by generating electricity and both hot and chilled water for the neighborhood with over twice the efficiency of conventional sources. Over her tenure, Related developed 30+ LEED Silver, Gold and Platinum properties in all assets types: affordable, luxury, office, retail, hospitality and mixed-use.
